ceA record twenty-five hardy souls entered the 2006 Pusser’s Painkiller Thriller, a twenty-mile downwind windsurfing race in the British Virgin Islands. Nineteen finished, last year’s winner defended his title and some do or die sailors landed at Nanny Cay beach over fours after they left the start line.”

ESPN Outdoors – Potential record hammerhead boated in Gulf

May 25, 2006 · Leave a Comment

I recently heard that some folks in Alameda saw a shark. We do live on the ocean I suppose. However, if you see one of those kite surfers of the point bringing one of these in, or being chased by one, do me a favor, and let them know.

ESPN Outdoors – Potential record hammerhead boated in Gulf: “On May 23, skipper Bucky Dennis of Port Charlotte, Fla., watched a massive hammerhead shark chomp down on a stingray he was live-lining in Boca Grand Pass.

By the time he and his crew had secured the fish, nearly six hours had passed and he found himself 12 miles offshore in his 23-foot flats boat.

Although Dennis guessed that the fish reached the 1,000-pound mark, it wasn’t until the shark hit a certified scale later that night that he found out he may have a shot at the next International Game Fish Association all-tackle world record for great hammerhead.

Back to the Future — New Zealand’s Spinyback Label Brings True ”Wines of Extinction” to the States via Alameda, CA

May 24, 2006 · Leave a Comment

Back to the Future — New Zealand’s Spinyback Label Brings True ”Wines of Extinction” to the States: “Via Pacifica Imports of Sebastopol, importers of hand-crafted artisan wines from cutting-edge wineries in New Zealand, today announced it will introduce the Spinyback portfolio to the U.S. with a major launch at The New Zealander Restaurant in Alameda, CA, on Saturday, June 17 (1400 Webster St., Alameda, from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m.).

Spinyback Wines are made by Waimea Estates Winery, located in the Nelson appellation on the north end of New Zealand’s South Island. The wines — a Sauvignon Blanc and a Pinot Noir — are named after an endangered reptile, the Tuatara, which is found only on 30 tiny offshore islands in New Zealand.

‘The Tuataras have a crest of spiky scales, called spines, on the center of their backs and tails, hence the name Spinyback,’ explained Howard Kalmer, owner of Via Pacifica Imports. ‘And while it looks like a lizard and is frequently referred to as one, the Tuatara really isn’t. Instead, it is the only survivor of a large group of ancient reptiles called Sphenodontia that roamed the earth in the Dinosaur Age. The Tuatara’s relatives died out about 60 million years ago, so that’s why it’s often called a ‘living dinosaur.’ In New Zealand, the Spinyback is almost as famous as the Kiwi bird,’ Kalm”

Hat tip, Gizmo Watch, and MANROOMONLINE

The Lazy Man’s Product Guide to energize your laziness – Gizmowatch: “Apparently, we’ve become lazy to the point that we need someone to tell us how to become lazier. ‘The Lazy Man’s Product Guide’ is compiled by Esquire’s Tom Chiarella for all his friends carrying the same penchant.

Tom Chiarella ambition is ‘to create the laziest lifestyle possible’ by introducing these products that’d definitely whet your lazy appetite. It includes the OneDerWear disposable underwear, Voice Command Universal Remote, Touch Turner Page Turner, GoDogGo Fetch Machine and much more.

I hope, at least a few of the lazy nerds are reading this and the rest can warm up their couches dreaming that ignorance is bliss.

Welcome to The Maple Ridge Times Online – Entertainment – Pusser’s Rum

May 22, 2006 · Leave a Comment

Hat Tip, Google News

Welcome to The Maple Ridge Times Online – Entertainment: “Before the clock sounds eight bells they must work through each of the mysterious clues without breaking the rules. And there is little trust between the characters as they drink Pussers Rum, improvise tools and discover clues through misunderstandings, realizations and hilarity. A ‘Clues Table’ will be set up in the lobby, Pussers Rum will be offered at the bar, and both sailors and wenches will be on hand to sing sea shanties during intermission.
